HLTHPS006 – Assist Clients with Medication is a nationally recognised unit of competency designed for support workers, care assistants, and personal carers who want to develop essential skills in safely assisting clients with their medication in residential, community, or in-home care settings.
This course aligns with Australian vocational education compliance requirements and prepares you for real-world responsibilities under the supervision or direction of healthcare professionals.
By completing this unit, you will gain both practical and theoretical knowledge to assist clients with medications, including:
- Prompting or reminding clients to take prescribed medication
- Safely assisting clients in opening packaging or accessing medication
- Delivering medication packs to clients
- Reading labels aloud and providing time-based medication prompts
- Ensuring the client has water or necessary aids to take medication
- Understanding common medications and their side effects
This training meets the obligations for DVA (Department of Veterans' Affairs). It is a nationally recognised qualification, ensuring your skills are transferable across the aged care and community care sectors.
