CHC43515 Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work is a qualification designed for workers who have lived experience of mental illness as either a consumer or carer and who work in mental health services in roles that support consumer peers or carer peers. This qualification provides Peer Workers with an opportunity to build on their lived experience and on-the-job experience and receive a nationally recognized qualification in mental health.
Course Delivery
The course is available through classroom-based delivery for knowledge and practical teaching in a simulated environment. The course is also available through virtual classroom delivery, which includes online training. Some providers offer self-paced learning as an alternative option for those who are unable to attend classroom sessions. The length of time to complete this qualification will depend on the location, study mode, and/or the student’s prior experience.
Course Structure
To obtain Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work, students must complete 15 units made up of 8 core and 7 elective units in addition to an 80-hour work placement. The core units include working with diverse people, working effectively in trauma-informed care, promoting and facilitating self-advocacy, and assessing and promoting social, emotional, and physical well-being. The elective units must be relevant to the work outcome and can be selected from any endorsed Training Package or accredited course.
