This course requires you to attend simulated training and assessment in personal care, manual handling and infection control using aids and equipment relevant to the industry at one of our locations – Caboolture or Kingaroy.

Individual Support Workers play a critical role in providing care and support to individuals in various settings, such as in the community, home, or residential care facilities. They work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, under supervision and delegation, to follow individualized plans and provide person-centred support to people who require assistance due to ageing, disability, or other reasons.

As an Individual Support Worker, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality care and support to individuals while also taking ownership of your outputs within the scope of your job role and delegation.

This role requires a range of skills and knowledge, including factual, technical, and procedural knowledge and theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support.

To become an Individual Support Worker, you will need to complete a Certificate III in Individual Support qualification. This program covers the skills and knowledge required to perform an Individual Support Worker’s duties effectively. It includes a simulated assessment and 120 hours of work placement to provide you with hands-on experience in the field.

Career Start has commenced in QLD from 01st July 2025.

Delivery Modes – we offer the following delivery modes for this course:

  • Face to Face (locations above)
  • Blended – You can complete this course in a blended model, whereby you can attend a mix of face to face and online learning.
  • Distance/Online – This course is not available fully online as you need to undertake simulated assessment.

    Simulated Assessment –  You must attend one of Our Locations (Caboolture, Kingaroy or Chinchilla)

    • Personal Care – Feeding, Dressing, Oral Care, Showering, Shaving, Bathing, Medication (Blister Packs)
    • Manual Handling – Slide Sheets, Hoists, In and out of Car Transfer, Risk of Falls
    • Infection Control – Donning and Doffing, Hand Care

    Workplace Assessment (Vocational placement) – 120 Hours – it is mandatory that you complete a minimum of 120 hours vocational placement within an aged care, disability or community care organisation. We are required to complete a risk assessment of the organisation to ensure it meets all of the requirements of the course. If you are working in the industry already, we will require the details of your supervisor to confirm the work being undertaken.

    • If you do choose the distance/online delivery model, you will need access to a laptop, internet, Microsoft Word (this excludes Open Office and Mac Pages) and PDF (Adobe Acrobat) software.
    • Mobile Phones and Tablets are not recommended options to complete the assessments.  If you elect to complete it on a tablet or mobile phone, you will need to have Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat installed on the device. (This excludes Open Office and Mac Pages)
